If your case does not settle, you may eventually have a trial scheduled. This might not be for several months or more than a year after filing. Your lawyer will counsel you on what to expect.

Settlement negotiations are usually ongoing even after a suit is filed. Once each party gets more familiar with the other side’s case, counter offers can be made. Your attorney will make recommendations regarding settlement, but the choice to settle and for how much is up to you.
